Data Story – Crime in Washington DC

Ventice created this visualization using open data from the city of Washington, DC.  The purpose of the dashboard is to gain insight into DC crime from 2008 to 2017(Aug).

The following are takeaways:

  • There has been a slight uptick in crime from 2009 – 2014, and a decrease after 2014 that looks to continue through 2017.
  • Theft accounts for the highest percentage of crime across all years.
  • The order of Wards by crime total has remained consistent, with fluctuation between Wards 5-8 in years 2009-2011.
  • Burglary and Arson consistently decline.
